If you are on the fence due to the weather forecast, just today we were able to book the Campers Services Meeting Room to operate from – meaning we will be inside out of the elements (antenna’s will still be outside). This location is not far from the outdoor area shown on the map on the Club’s website. Instead of turning left off the main road (JL Ranch Heights Road) towards the Raptor Glen Campground and Falcon Amphitheater, turn right into the building parking lot and the room is on the north side of the building (look for antenna’s).
If you are interested in learning more about POTA, this is a great opportunity to get out and experience a live activation with some well-seasoned POTA Activators (perhaps a special guest appearance by an operator who has successfully hunted and activated a park in all 50 states). This is a good chance to see just how easy and how much fun activating a park can be (especially when doing it with fellow HAM’s).
If you are well versed in POTA, come make some contacts, share your experiences, and help teach others what it’s all about.
We will be operating with the PPRAA Club Call Sign AF0S. Using the club call sign not only gives contact credit to the club; if logged properly the operator gets personal credit for the contacts as well. If you don’t have a POTA account that ok, the contacts are stored in the database and will show up when you set up an account. If you’d like to set up a POTA account or get more information about POTA prior to the event, please visit www.parksontheair.com. We will also be able to help you set up an account while at the event.
If you have any questions or If you would like to go to a different park and activate at the same time, that would be great. If you’d like to activate using AF0S (you or someone with you must be an Amateur Extra), prior to the event, please contact Ken Hook K0KWH [president @ ppraa.com] for more information about spotting and logging.
There will not be any food or drinks provided so please plan accordingly.
Time & Date: Saturday April 20, 2024 – 9AM–4PM
Location: Cheyenne Mountain State Park (near the Falcon Amphitheater at the very top of the park) 410 JL Ranch Heights Rd, Colorado Springs, CO 80926
IMPORTANT – In all Colorado State Parks, a daily pass is required on each vehicle (not each person) entering the park. A single day pass is $10.00 and can only be purchased at the park. Beginning in 2023, the State of Colorado introduced an option to purchase an annual vehicle pass for $29 when renewing your vehicles license plates. If you have missed the window on including the pass with your vehicle registration, and would like to avoid the daily fee every time you visit a park, Colorado Parks and Wildlife still offers an annual vehicle pass for $80.00.
Please view the map, there is parking and restrooms close to the intended location.
